Perfect 5-Minute Makeup Routine
Hello everyone! I've just recently made the transition to college which means I have very limited time for my morning makeup routine. While it's totally okay to forego the process all together, there are still a few girls like me who can't walk out the door without at least a little something on our faces. Fortunately, I have minimized my full-face procedure into a 5-10 minute routine thats perfect for busy girls and guys like me!
This step is crucial to the process if you're like me and don't get much sleep. Brightening up your under eyes can make your face do an entire 360º. It'll make you look much more awake. Apply a concealer that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone under your eyes (and other problem areas if needed) and blend with a beauty blender. My favorite concealer for this is the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in "Chantilly" ($30), or Revlon's Colorstay concealer in "Fair" ($10).
PRESSED POWDER FOUNDATION IS A MAJOR KEY. It gives you awesome coverage in a fraction of the time it takes to apply liquid foundation. It's also super easy to touch up during the day. Okay, I know what you're thinking, "Who uses pressed powder foundation anymore?", and the answer to that is: you. I know it sounds crazy because it seems that everyone is using a liquid or cream foundation, and those that still use powder foundations are using loose powder, mineral foundations. However, I rediscovered pressed powder foundation last summer, and my morning makeup routine has since transformed.
Pressed powder foundations are often associated with light-coverage, however this is not the case. Pressed powder foundations can be layered, and used on top of concealers to ultimately achieve full coverage. My favorite pressed powder is the Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation ($36). I have combination skin and it combats oil and doesn't cling to dry patches. Additionally, it gives awesome coverage that can be layered.
In short, pressed powder foundations are the bomb and are a huge time saver. We don't say to no to saving time in college y'all.
I know you've heard it a million times but, eyebrows are the most important part of your makeup routine. You've heard this a million times because its true. Your eyebrows frame your face, essentially showcasing the rest of your features. If you already have fabulous brows, you can skip this step; but if your brows are looking a little sparse, try filling them in. They absolutely do not have to look like the fleeky instagram brows, but just try to add some color where you might be lacking. I enjoy using Anastasia Beverley Hills' Dipbrow Pomade ($18), but twist up eyebrow pencils are a little more user friendly (try Anastasia Beveley Hills' Brow Wiz ($21)). Check back in soon to see my "fleeky eyebrow routine"!
Mascara is super important here. Like your eyebrows, defining your lashes will aid in framing your face, and will also make your eyes look bigger and more awake. Since we're not using eyeshadow, curling our lashes is essential. However, this is a 5 minute makeup routine and we do not have time to curl our lashes girl. Thats why were killing two birds with one stone by using a lash curling mascara. Apply one coat, wait for it to become tacky, and then apply a second coat. Don't forget to apply a quick coat to your bottom lashes for even more definition (but don't go overboard)!
My absolute favorite holy grail mascara is the Maybelline Lash Sensational Full Fan Effect mascara (the original, not Luscious or Curvitude)($6.99). My lashes are straight as a board and can only hold a curl from a lash curler if I use waterproof mascara (it's more lightweight), but removing water proof mascara at the end of the day is a hike and a half. We do not have time for that, so were using a good old fashioned non-water proof mascara that comes off easily with water. I honestly couldn't believe that this mascara curls my eyelashes as well it does because of the stubbornness of my lashes, but it works. I highly, highly recommend you invest in this gem.
Apply some setting powder to fight oil and to achieve a smooth, flawless face. My favorite is the RCMA No-Color Powder. You can buy a 3oz container for $12. I've had mine for almost two years, and I use it everyday.
Step 6: Bronzer
Bronzer is the secret weapon in this routine. It's going to give your face so much more dimension, and not to mention, you'll have a sun kissed glow too. This step is going to work wonders and truly give you a flawless face.
Apply bronzer with a light hand to the hollows of your cheeks, temples, top of your forehead, nose, and underneath your chin. My favorite bronzer for this is Benefit's Hoola ($29).
Amidst the liquid lip craze, we often forget that good old lip gloss exists. Despite the recent drop in popularity, lip gloss is still a staple, especially for this routine. I use any pinky gloss to give my face a pop of color, and to make me look more alive.
Step 8: Setting spray
If you're not hip to setting spray by now, this is the time. GET HIP! I use the Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray ($32) and honestly and truly keeps my makeup staying fresh all day, and I mean ALL day. We don't have time for touch ups girl!
That's all for my 5-minute makeup! I hope this helped some of you busy girls and guys out there! xoxo
