Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation vs. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Long Wear Foundation

Estee Lauder's Double Wear Foundation and Lancome Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation have been compared against each other since they've been on the shelves. Many of those who swore by Estee Lauder DW switched to Lancome ULW when it came out; however many still preach the greatness of the OG super long lasting, full coverage foundation that is Estee Lauder Double Wear. Personally, I used Estee Lauder DW for a very long time; however, I noticed that almost every time I went to repurchase Estee Lauder DW, the employees would try to get me to buy Lancome ULW instead. I always went with Estee Lauder DW up until about a month ago. I had an event that I had to have a fake tan for, so I purchased Estee Lauder DW in a darker color. Unfortunately, it didn't match my tan so I had to run to Ulta to find an alternative. Since Estee Lauder isn't sold at Ulta, I decided to finally give Lancome Ultra Long Wear a shot.  Now that I have personally tried both of these foundations, I am ready to put an end to feud and crown one supreme.

Lancome Ultra 24h Long Wear Foundation

    Pros

The name is nothing but true. This foundation is as ultra long wear as can be. I applied it around 3pm, went to a formal event, fell asleep in it (oops), and it looked just as fresh at 9am the next morning. This foundation also gave a high quality impression from the packaging alone. The thick glass, the gold emblem on the lid, and the convenient pump made me want to display this bottle on my vanity. Also, there are a whopping 40 shades to choose from, so the Ulta employee had no trouble color matching me with my fake tan color.. The consistency of this foundation is also really nice. It's not too thick and not too thin. It's very bendable and gives a nice, natural, dewy finish. The coverage did not disappoint either. It was very full coverage, and gave a perfect base for a full face without looking cakey. It hid my pores and didn't settle into any fine lines or dry patches. Lastly, this foundation is great for flash photography, as it gave no flash back despite having SPF 15. All in all, this foundation gave a good first impression.

    Cons

Unfortunately, all good things come with a price tag. This foundation is steeply priced at $47, which is $7.50 more than Estee Lauder Double Wear. Also, I did notice I was slightly more oily than usual and ended up having to touch up more than I wanted to. Additionally, I tried this foundation for about two weeks and had to quit using it. I thought my break outs were from accidentally sleeping in my makeup that one night, but after continued usage it was clear that it was the foundation alone that gave me such horrible break outs despite it's claims of being non-comedogenic and oil free. Something in it did not like my skin at all.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

    Pros

Just like Lancome ULW, the name of this foundation rings true. This foundation isn't going anywhere, and it keeps my oily skin at bay. It is also non-comedogenic and oil-free like Lancome ULW, however is has never broken me out. In fact, even when I've accidentally fallen asleep with it on (don't do this), I've hardly noticed any break outs. I've heard a lot of people complain about the "thick" consistency of this foundation, however, I've never been bothered by it. I have used much, much thicker foundations in my time. While it may be slightly thicker compared to other foundations on the shelves, it doesn't feel heavy or look cakey in the least, and the blendabiliy is just that of Lancome ULW. It also gives a beautiful velvety finish that is to die for. It hides pores and doesn't settle into fine lines, wrinkles, or dry patches. It is my go-to base for a full face, and it interacts very well with other products. Another huge plus is that it is competitively priced at $39.50 which is a very reasonable price to pay for a high end foundation. This foundation also has a shade for everyone, as it comes it 35 different colors. All in all, this is a great, classic foundation.

    Cons

A huge downside of this foundation is it's flashback. Flash photography is not it's friend. It doesn't have the protection of SPF either, which is usually the cause of flashback. Additionally, the packaging is pretty but no where near the beauty of Lancome ULW. It doesn't have a pump either which can make application a little messy.

The Winner?

Estee Lauder Double Wear wins every time. I can't say enough good things about this foundation. It's a tried and true and will never fail me. Between its long wear formula, full coverage, velvety finish, reasonable price, and skin-friendly ingredients, its a winner for sure. Lancome ULW is too pricey, makes me too oily, and breaks me out way too much. Whether you have acne-prone or sensitive skin, a tight budget, or desire a long-wear, full coverage foundation, Estee Lauder Double Wear is the product for you. As for flash photography, there are tons of other flash-friendly foundations out there. In the end, I'd rather have a little flashback than a face full of breakouts.

Honestly, both of these foundations are winners. Everyone's skin reacts differently to certain products, so what works for me may not work for you. While I recommend Estee Lauder Double Wear, you could definitely pick up Lancome ULW and give it a try. Again, everyone has different needs when it comes to foundation. Thankfully, Sephora has an awesome exchange and return policy, so keep the box and receipt and swap whatever products you desire. Thanks for reading!
